How I deal with Sunday Scaries
If you’re unfamiliar with the term ‘Sunday Scaries’ like I was this term is referring to the anxiety and or dread that comes along with a Sunday afternoon before the work/school week ahead.
The main pivotal change for me dealing with the dread of a new week was to switch my work schedule to have Sundays off, for me this gave me a definitive period of time between the weekend and the new school week.
On my Sundays I like to plan small outings with my family like trying a new coffee shop, going to the bookstore, spending time outside or going to the movies. This provides me with a satisfying feeling of having a fun weekend and also getting out of the house. I also try to prioritize self care on Sundays to get me ready for a new week by choosing some calming activities (having a bath, reading some of my book, tidying my room, doing my skincare routine and changing my bedsheets).
To end off my night before a new week I like to journal about my day and leave some positive affirmations as a grounding technique as well as reflect and identify certain emotions that I’m feeling. Although Sunday Scaries still get the best of me sometimes I continue to implement new strategies as a way of healthily coping.
